Explore the music of the Near East, Russia to the Czech Republic, and the Balkans with Janáček, Zelenski, Martinů, Schulhoff, and the lyrical Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings. Let the music of South American sweep you away to the Andes with the haunting flute tours de force, Miami Flute and Piano Suite and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Sueños de Chambi. Then it’s off to the streets of Brazil and the tango halls of Buenos Aires, featuring the virtuosic Quinteto Quilombo performing Astor Piazzolla’s incendiary tangos and milongas.

The promise of Liberty! “The Golden Door,” Mark Fish’s new work commissioned by Music at the Mission with a documentary by local filmmakers, celebrates the immigrant experience in Fremont, a city of rich cultures brought together by choice or circumstance. Flavors of the Philippines, Mexico, China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Syria, blend with classical themes in this inspirational multi-media World Premiere.
